If coming by M4, exit at Jcn 13, congestion in Newbury may often be avoided by taking A34 Newbury bypass (signposted Winchester)for 6 miles to slip road exit for A343 signposted Wash Common and Highclere. Follow A343 towards Wash Common and Newbury for approximately 1 mile until Gun PH (200M after Sainsbury Local) where turn left into Essex Street and proceed as above.
